A Gift of Love
(Green Bay, WI) Happily Ever After (HEA) is looking for individuals or groups of people to volunteer and help raise money for their organization. Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, HEA is asking for virtual volunteers to help raise funds for the organization. The event takes place on Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd. With the event being virtual, volunteers are allowed to raise money anytime between the two dates. HEA will provide a toolkit and an easy to use fundraising platform to help maximize the volunteers' fundraising success. Volunteers are asked to raise a minimum of $100. Dick and Sharon Resch will be matching up to $30,000.
Igor came to HEA through their partner, Dane County Humane Society. Igor had initially belonged to a schizophrenic individual who unfortunately couldn't adequately care for Igor. Igor became a ward of the state and was ordered to be euthanized after his owner brought him to a dog park and resulted in Igor killing another dog and biting several people. HEA testified on Igor's behalf in court and he was released into HEA's custody on the condition that he remain a lifetime resident of their Sanctuary. Before coming to HEA, Igor had been locked in a room all alone, only going outside for bathroom breaks. His first night at HEA's Sanctuary, he sat outside in the rain all night, despite the fact that he had access to his inside kennel. Igor warmed up a bit to staff of the Sanctuary in his time with us, but never actively seeked attention from humans. After a few years, he developed bloat, which can be very dangerous for dogs. He was treated and began to recover, but then started to go down hill. HEA’s founder, Amanda, was driving him to the vet in her van when Igor mustered up enough strength to walk to the front of the van, put his head on Amanda's leg, and lick her cheek. He then moved back to the back of the van and passed away. Though Igor never really came around to wanting human attention, he understood the love and care that Amanda had for him and we believe this was his way of thanking her. Igor's story exemplifies HEA's 'lifetime guarantee' that an animal has a home with them for as long as they need, even if that is forever. Igor enjoyed his life as a member of the HEA family and the Sanctuary was truly his home. HEA wants to save more animals like Igor and they need your help. We ask for an hour of your time as that could mean life or death for animals that are waiting for HEA’s help.
